Clare’s Virgin London Marathon challenge 2020! Sponsorship Page
I feel very honoured to be part of the Jersey Hospice Care Virgin London Marathon team for 2020! This will be my FIRST marathon (!) so being part of this team will help with the hard miles to come in training through the winter months!
Jersey Hospice Care is a charity that is very dear to my family. In 2015, I lost my Mum to uterine cancer, and Jersey Hospice Care were there to provide support for the whole family, firstly as an out patient, and then in the In Patient Unit at Clarkson House for her last two weeks. It was such a precious time for the family, and we were all very grateful to have this space to be together. Four years later, my Dad was also cared for in the In Patient Unit for nearly two weeks before he died on Christmas Day 2018 as a result of stomach cancer.
In preparation for running the Virgin London Marathon next April, I have been training for a number of different running events to raise funds for Jersey Hospice Care, these include:
• Jayson Lee 10k (August)
• Spartan half marathon (September)
• Super League Triathlon (September)
• Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon Relay (October),
• Durrell Dash (November)
• Frubbs 10-miler (November)
• ……and the list keeps growing!
When I’m out training on a long run, or the weather is proving a challenge, then I think just about my Mum and Dad and what they had to put up with in terms of rounds of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, drugs, scans, sickness and everything else that goes with all of that – and this motivates me to ‘get over it’.
I am passionately grateful to Jersey Hospice Care for the support my family received when we needed it most. I hope my fundraising efforts go a little way towards saying ‘thank you’ to this amazing local charity.
Thanks in advance for sponsoring me with my running challenges through to the London Marathon 2020, every single penny is appreciated. xxx
